Bali Day 3 - Dessert and Wine at Vin + Seminyak

Vin + Seminyak
Jalan Kayu Jati # 1, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

We were definitely well-fed after our lovely meal at Bambu Restaurant but because we were forced to vacate after a set time, we were sadly under-watered. With alcohol, that is.

Luckily for us Bali isn't the kind of place where it's hard to find somewhere to kick on into the night. We turned a corner and found Vin +. According to Jenny, I pointed out how interesting the venue looked every time we walked past so it was about time that we actually went in to check the place out.

Vin + is a wine-focused lounge bar. The layout is open and in the more outdoor section, there was a live band performing some mild pop song covers. Our group took up a corner couch and table where it was quite warm at first but improved after the waitstaff turned on the air-conditioning unit near us.

The decor is dark and sophisticated with a hint of Asian flair in the form of bamboo posts. We didn't explore the full extent of the menu because we had already eaten dinner but we browsed through the bar menu and a few items managed to stand out.

For drinks, there are many options for bottled wine and we asked for a recommendation of white from their list of monthly featured wines. This arrived as a chilled sparkling and was quite easy to drink as it wasn't too sweet.

Japanese honeyed plum wine

To cater for the more sweet-toothed in our team, we also ordered a bottle of Japanese plum wine. This was very sweet but had a beautiful honeyed plum flavour. We didn't end up finishing this bottle on the night so we took it back to our resort to continue enjoying the next day.

Cheese platter

Good beverage is best enjoyed with tasty things to nibble on. Even though just moments before, we were all crying out "too full!" from dinner, the notion of a cheese platter grew ever more appealing. The Vin + cheese platter had a good variety of cheeses to suit all our preferences. It was nice and light and served to satisfy our tastebuds without taking up too much tummy space.

One thing I've distinctly noticed as I've gotten older is that I don't usually order dessert. It's not just for health reasons but I find I don't crave sweet things as much as I used to. Having said that, every now and again a dessert item catches my intention. I was interested in the green tea mousse layer cake as soon I read it and when Sarah told me she was ordering the chocolate fondant, I jumped to join her on the dessert train.

Green tea cake

The green tea mousse cake was soft and delicate with layers of light sponge and airy mousse. It wasn't too rich, which was perfect for what I was in the mood for.

Chocolate fondant

The chocolate fondant was rich but could be forgiven for its petite size (and also because that's the whole point of a chocolate cake). A small cake like this shared between four girls becomes a very manageable amount.

Lava centre

There was the all-important gooey centre and it went well with the vanilla ice-cream on the side.

Vin + was a lovely wind down hang out spot for us and lead to an enjoyable evening. Even though we didn't sit down for a formal meal, we tasted a few of their food items. The desserts were great and the cheese platter was just right for sampling with wines. The drinks menu is very impressive and I'm sure those who are more wine savvy than we are would appreciate it more.
